Explore Saltine Communications' role as Imperial Taste’s PR agency, crafting a compelling media strategy to introduce Singapore’s first Peranakan-inspired steamboat buffet. With its unique fusion of Nonya flavors and an affordable price point of just S$19.90, Imperial Taste is redefining Singapore’s hotpot scene.

A Unique Steamboat Experience
Most Singaporeans associate steamboats with traditional Chinese hotpot chains, but Imperial Taste brings a fresh twist by incorporating bold Peranakan flavors. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Cheney Chua and Sarah Tay, the restaurant blends Malay, Chinese, and Nonya influences into a one-of-a-kind steamboat dining experience. Situated in Bedok Simpang, it caters to families and food lovers looking for an affordable yet premium buffet experience, complete with free-flow lok lok and eight unique ice cream flavors.
Cheney, who was previously in the logistics industry and is also a professional model signed with Beam Artistes, transitioned into F&B alongside Sarah, whose Peranakan heritage and family’s culinary traditions deeply inspired the restaurant’s offerings. Their vision was to create a dining experience that celebrates Singapore’s rich cultural heritage while remaining accessible to all.
Bringing Peranakan Steamboat to the Media
As Imperial Taste’s PR agency, Saltine Communications developed a targeted media outreach strategy to introduce the restaurant’s unique Peranakan-inspired steamboat concept. We invited food and lifestyle media for exclusive tastings, allowing them to experience firsthand the rich flavors and signature dishes crafted by Imperial Taste. Through curated dining experiences and strategic storytelling, we showcased how Imperial Taste blends Malay, Chinese, and Nonya influences, setting it apart from traditional hotpot spots.

Beyond the food, we also highlighted the journey of co-founder Cheney Chua, his transition from the logistics industry to becoming Mr. Worldwide Singapore 2023, and now an F&B entrepreneur. By tapping into his story and his passion for creating an accessible yet culturally rich dining experience, we brought a personal touch to the media narrative.
Through these efforts, Saltine Communications successfully secured media features across key publications, positioning Imperial Taste as a must-visit dining destination.
